Remember to Vote in the Run-off Elections next Tuesday, July 24!

Run-off primary elections are this coming Tuesday, June 24. Of course, the big action is on the Republican side, with run-offs for Governor, Lieutenant Governor (and a Superior Court judicial seat in DeKalb), but on the Democratic ballot, there are run-offs for State School Superintendent, the Sixth Congressional District, and the Superior Court race, as well as the DeKalb Super District 7 seat.

If you voted in one of the party's primaries in May, you can only vote in the run-off for that party. But if you didn't vote in May, you can vote in either run-off. Be sure to research your ballot and the candidates before you go vote! Review sample ballots at www.mvp.sos.ga.gov.

Distracted Driving Law is in Effect — Are you prepared?

Georgia's new hands-free driving law, which I supported during the 2018 Legislative Session, took effect at the beginning of July. In order to prepare, I bought a Plantronics headset and I love it! I've been using it while folding laundry and other tasks as well as during driving, and have been wondering why I didn't buy one earlier.

Under this new law, it is now illegal to support your phone with any part of your body while driving — including at a stoplight. We hope this will cut down on distracted driving accidents and traffic delays. Wondering specifically what is allowed and what is not under the new law? Check out the AJC's coverage and the explanations on the Governor's Office of Highway Safety's website.
